Secrets to firm, healthy and glowing skin

Is a Silicone Facial Cleanser device the Secret to Firmer, Healthy, Glowing Skin?

Written by MELISSA DI MIERI – Skin Coach & Nutritional Advisor

As a professional SKIN COACH & NUTRITIONAL ADVISOR with over 33 year’s experience owning Medi-Spa, Day-Spa and Skin Clinics within Melbourne, the one thing our clients would always be excited about is the “facial massage” during their skin treatments. They enjoyed the relaxation of having their skin thoroughly cleaned, exfoliated and having a relaxing facial massage. They loved the end results of having a more plump, dewy appearance leaving them feeling that their skin has a more youthful brighter appearance and not looking tired or dull in appearance.

The reason why is not only the steps involved to treat the skin concerns, but the actual facial massage creates a microcirculation of blood flow to the area and muscles are relaxed, softening the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  Everything visibly looked softer, skin tone looked even, skin clearer and calmer.  Makeup application gave a hydrated flawless appearance straight after having a facial with a massage included.

If my staff and I had $1.00 for every time we heard WOW I wish I could take your hands with me home and do this from the comfort of my place!  The steps to creating great glowing skin are very quick and simple steps.Facial massage may be considered a quick and effective way to your skin glow, a strong consideration is all in the technique and touch on the skin.  There is a right and wrong way to perform facial massage and skin routine. A strong consideration is that rubbing or pulling at the facial skin is a positive way to stimulate blood flow and create a firmer skin.  Instead it must be performed with a gentle and mindful technique. That is why it might be time to invest in a facial device that can support a gentle and effective way to clean the skin and massage the skin all at the same time. It’s a treatment safe and effective enough to do from home in between your skin clinic appointments.

If you're like most people, you want healthy glowing skin. Unfortunately, many products are loaded with chemicals that can be harmful to your skin health. Luckily, there are a number of ways to achieve healthy glowing skin that supports great skin health. In this blog post, we'll discuss 7 ways to achieve great skin health at home. A key note to remember is that over exfoliating or over cleansing your skin may leave you feeling squeaky-clean, but this is actually damaging to your skin and can increase the appearance of ageing to your skin or over stimulate the skin.

The reason for this is that it is damaging your skin barrier, the connective tissue network of skin cells and good fats in the outer layer of the skin that is designed to protect your skin for the external environment.

The Benefits of Silicone Facial Cleansers and why it is a game changer for your homecare routine.

Facial cleansing and massage devices can improve the appearance of your skin in so many ways. It not only supports a deeper clean to your skin without stripping your skin, it improves circulation, relaxes muscles (softening stress lines) and supports skin tone. By stimulating the skin, it results in increased circulation as mentioned earlier, but also ultimately helps produce collagen and elastin.
Here is what I loved about the Ellodi Silicone Facial Cleanser and its main difference between this product and others in the market is:
  • Heated eye massage (back side heats and uses a heated massage program)
  • Flexible & unique size cleansing brush for a thorough clean
  • Anti-bacterial silicone (some brands don’t have this) so this reassured me when using daily
  • One button touch control so simple and not complicated to use
  • Unique & elegant design stylish and looks great in my bathroom

Below is a simple skin ritual that I personally use, and it does not take up a lot of time, however it is an extremely effective way to create healthy glowing skin.
With so many skin care treatments available in skin salons and home care devices it can be hard to navigate through what is best for you and your skin.  Having a device that has your skin's best interest in mind is a positive start!

To create a skin ritual from home at the end of this blog of information you can create your best approach to skin health and glowing skin from the comfort of your own home.

As a professional Skin Coach, I am asked what a quick routine is to do at home that can support my skin in between skin clinic treatments. Keep reading to learn more about facial cleansing and massage device benefits and how to achieve a healthy glowing skin from the comfort of your home.

8 steps to achieve Healthy, Clean & Glowing Healthy Skin…

Your homecare skin routine kit:

  • Pre-Cleanse Oil
  • Cleanser to suit your skin condition
  • Gentle effective exfoliator to support your skin condition
  • Hydrating Mask
  • Facial cleaner & massage device
  • Eye cream
  • Serum day (Vit C, Vit B or Hyaluronic)
  • Serum night (Vit A derived corrector*)
  • Moisturiser & Protector

 1. Keep hydrated and eat healthy foods to keep your skin hydrate

Here is a hidden myth about drinking water.  When you first consume water, its main focus is to flush out the body and water goes to your organs not actually hydrates your skin.  The positive aspect of consuming water daily is water keeps your body hydrated and refreshed and helps maintain your skin’s elasticity.  People who consume large amounts of water, for example 2-3 liters of water are less likely to show the appearance of ageing on their skin than those who do not consume water.  Staying hydrated will help improve blood circulation, which in turn will help keep your skin looking healthy. In addition, eating healthy foods is important for keeping your skin looking its best. Some good choices include foods that are high in antioxidants, such as blueberries, strawberries, and kale. Also, good fats in your diet, such as avocado, nuts and proteins.

TIP# reduce your sugar intake as it ages your skin

2. Use a face wash to cleanse designed for your skin type- step it up by cleaning with a cleaning device.

There are many different types of face washes available on the market, but not all of them are created equal. Squeaky clean is not healthy skin by the way!

Commercial face washes may contain harsh chemicals that can be harmful to your skin. Instead, opt for a cleanser or face wash that contains ingredients that support your skin condition and skin type.  These ingredients are known for their antibacterial and antifungal properties, which can help keep your skin clear. Or ingredients that will soothe and calm reactive prone skin. Have you heard your skin therapist mention “double cleansing” this is when you wash your skin twice rather simple to understand correct?  The catch is that you need to use two different cleansers or cleaning devices to achieve the desired result.  You can either select to use your first cleanse is usually an oil-based pre-cleanse product and the second is a water-based one.

Whilst this is done mechanically with your hands most people end their cleanse right on the jaw line and forget about the throat and décolletage giving a two tone colour to your face and neck area. Be mindful the next time you cleanse and take it down further to include throat and décolletage.

Another tip is to not cleanse your skin in the shower as this can dry the skin out.  Dermatologists and skin therapists will encourage you to wash your face at the basin and avoid cleansing in the shower.

The skin receives a light micro circulation of blood flow giving a slight appearance of dewy glowing skin. Now imagine taking your skin to the next cleansing level and skin health by adding a facial cleansing device to help with not only cleaning your skin but also improves the blood flow and circulation to give the skin an instant “skin glow” effect. It goes one step further and aids in relaxing the muscles and tone of the skin.  This is what softens the skin appearance of fine lines and helps produce collagen and elastin.

After reading this, cleansing is more than just simply washing your face, it is also the first pillar in supporting your skin glow, health and microcirculation to improve skin tone and texture when adding a cleansing device!

3. Exfoliate your skin weekly or fortnightly to remove dead skin cells.

Exfoliation is the process of removing dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. It leaves your skin feeling smoother in texture and supports an even complexion when applying makeup.  This can be done with a number of different products, including scrubs mechanical (with beads, granular or enzyme to lift the buildup of dead cells), cloths, and brushes. Exfoliating your skin at least 1 per week or every fortnight (depending on your skin condition) will help keep your pores clear and prevent the build-up of dead skin cells, which can lead to skin congestion and blackheads.

4. Apply a mask to your skin weekly or fortnightly to improve a clearer complexion and boost the appearance of your skin’s hydration.

Adding a mask into your home skin care routine after exfoliation 1-2 week or every fortnight helps to support each skin type and condition based on the mask chosen.

Benefits of using a mask are:

  • Hydrated and adds more moisture to dry skins
  • Improves skin texture
  • Decongest clogged pores and skin congestion
  • Absorbs excess oil and dirt
  • Enhances skin tone and elasticity
  • Minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

5. Apply a booster or serum to keep your skin hydrated or correct imperfections. Step it up by infusing the serum with a massage heat device.

Just like your skin needs water to stay hydrated, it also helps when adding skin booster or serum to keep your skin more; plump, hydrated, and improves skin tone and texture.  Serums have a smaller molecular structure that makes for easy transportation via the hair follicle into the skin. This helps support the skin at a deeper cellular level. Select serums or skin booster high in antioxidant such as Vitamin C, Vitamin B (niacinamide) & hyaluronic serum which holds is weight more than water for the skin for day time and evening select a *Vitamin A derived serum to help with cellular turnover and correction (please ensure you speak to a professional when investing in a Vitamin A product and it is not to be used if you are pregnant or considering getting pregnant)  If you want to take your home treatment to the ultimate level, apply the serum then use a facial device that has heat to help with the micro circulation allowing for more absorption of your serum to the skin cells. Place the serum onto a clean skin and then infuse the serum using your heated massage device to aid in the penetration of the serum further into your skin. Start with the forehead, then move towards the checks, around your eyes, chin, jaw, neck area then decollate. Use a light circular motion to gently move the device around the face.

6.  Apply a hydrating or anti-ageing eye cream to keep your skin hydrated and protected.

The benefits of eye cream help prevent the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Eye cream helps prevent common signs of ageing
  • It minimizes the look of puffiness
  • It helps reduce the appearance of dark circles if you have poor circulation or lack of sleep
  • Eye creams deliver hydration designed for the skin texture around the eyes
  • Eye creams help with uneven skin tone
  • It helps prep the skin for makeup up application

I found that by using Ellodi's Silicone Facial Cleanser with the heat application around my eyes, it supported my eyes without feeling puffy and the skin tone.  My eye cream absorbed better and the microcirculation improved my skin tone and texture.

7. Use sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun's harmful rays.

The sun can be harmful to your skin, and over time it can cause wrinkles and age spots. To protect your skin, be sure to apply sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher every day. Sunscreen is your number one anti ageing product and should be worn all year round. Even on cloudy days, our skin is susceptible to the sun’s rays which can lead to skin cancer, skin discoloration and wrinkles over time.  Skin works to protect us from harmful ultraviolet radiation. This is why a good sunscreen is a smart investment. TIP# select a physical sunblock over a chemical sunblock. As physical blocks sit on top of your skin and reflect the sun’s rays, chemical blocks are absorbed into the skin and then absorb UV rays. They convert the rays into heat, and then release them from the body.
